Andre Crews rushes for 295 yards; Wolverines score 34 Unanswered in 41-23 win over the Tigers
Throughout the day Saturday at Gately Stadium, three Chicago Public League powers went to battle with three teams from one of the best football conferences in the state: the DuKane Conference. The second of the three matchups was between Wheaton Warrenville South and Simeon.
The Tigers got off to a fast start. Sophomore quarterback Luca Carbonaro (11/14, 122 yards, 2 TD) threw 2 touchdown passes to senior wideout Braylen Meredith (6 receptions, 75 yards, 2 TD) for 21 and 13 yards respectively. Then running back Jake Vozza ran the ball in from 7 yards out moments after a Keshaun Parker interception. The touchdown run put Wheaton Warrenville South up 23-7 at the 5:26 mark of the 2nd quarter.
It was all Simeon after that. The Wolverines were able to overcome a 1st and 24 on one play: a 28 yard run by Andre Crews. On the next play Crews ran for a 33 yard touchdown, the first of five straight scores for the Wolverines. Along with that 33 yarder, Crews would add touchdown runs of 2 and 69 yards, and finish the game with 295 yards rushing. His 2 yard run put the Wolverines ahead for good.
Wolverines receiver Malik Elzy, a Cincinnati commit, showed brilliant flashes as well. He caught 3 of Parker's passes for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns. Elzy's second touchdown catch put the icing on the cake.
The Wolverines (1-0) will host Bolingbrook next Saturday afternoon, and the Tigers (0-1) will travel to Neuqua Valley (1-0) next Friday.
