Battle of District 117: Schuyler, Eriksen Lift Sequoits to Round One Victory over the Eagles

matt now

Monday I went up north to Antioch for the first of three games between the Sequoits and Eagles. As I had mentioned in a previous article, this is a rivalry near and dear to my heart as a Lakes alum.

Last season the Eagles took two out of three against the Sequoits; an 8-7 win in round 1, a 15-5 loss in 5 innings in round 2, and a 15-9 win in the rubber match. How would the two rivals fair this year?

The Sequoits struck first in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Catcher T.J. Schuyler (3/3, 3 2B, RBI) led off with the first of his three doubles, and eventually came around to score after Mason Willis reached on an error.

In the top of the 4th, sophomore Owen Klosinski (1/3, RBI 2B) and senior Cayden Hart (2/3, RBI) had back-to-back RBI hits to put the Eagles up 2-1. However, the bottom half started similarly to the bottom of the 2nd as Schuyler led off with his second double of the game. He would advance to third on a fly ball, and score the game-tying run on a groundout.

With 2 outs, first baseman Jacob Eriksen (1/3) hit what would be the game winning solo homerun off of Jaden Jackson. The Sequoits would add an insurance run off of reliever Evan Dahl thanks to TJ Schuyler's third double of the game, and the Sequoits took round 1 4-2.

Sequoits starter Dylan Feldkamp went 4.2 innings, gave up 3 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 3, and struckout 5. Reliever Dawson Gutke pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, and Quade Moll closed it out in the 7th.

Jaden Jackson went 4 innings for the Eagles, gave up 3 hits, 3 runs, had 2 earned, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts. Evan Dahl gave up 1 run on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts in 2 innings pitched.
