Benet Downs New Trier; Will Battle Moline for 4A Championship

Friday was the day for the 3A and 4A games for a chance to advance to the State Championships on Saturday. The first 4A semifinal game was between Benet and New Trier.
In the Supersectionals, the Redwings beat up Rockford Auburn 67-33. The Trevians beat a tough Libertyville squad 54-48.
Last season the Redwings lost in the Sectional Semifinal to Wheaton Warrenville South, who would lose in the Sectional Final to Juggernaut Glenbard West. The Trevians lost in the Sectional Final to Glenbrook South who would get upset by Barrington in the Supersectional.
Early in the first quarter, the Redwings lost key player Brady Kunka to an injury. 6-2 senior sixth man Sam Driscoll answered the call scoring 9 of his 11 points in the first half on 3 threes. Driscoll, like Kunka, was also strong on the baords as he snagged 6 rebounds.
Driscoll and company took care of business defeating the Trevians 64-49. The difference in the game was the 3-point shooting as the Redwings (8/15, 53.3%) topped the Trevians (3/14, 21.4%) in that category.
Seniors Brayden Fagbemi (Johns Hopkins) and 6-5 Nikola Abusara (Dartmouth) each led the Redwings with 18 points. Fagbemi finished with 4 rebounds and 5 assists, and Abusara finished with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. 6-6 junior Parker Sulaver had 9 points and 6 rebounds, and 6-4 senior Andy Nash had 8 points, including 2/5 from three.
Trevians star guard Jake Fiegen, a Cornell commit, led all scorers with 26 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore Colby Smith had 5 points, and senior Evan Kanellos had 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.
