The defending class 2A champions opened their playoff schedule Saturday evening against the Chicago Christian Knights. The Wildcats dominated their way through the 2A postseason last year, and continued their dominance against the Knights.
Wildcats senior running back Colin James (8 carries, 133 yards, 4 TD) had touchdown runs of 25 and 14 yards after the Wildcats defense recovered two Knights fumbles. He would add his third rushing touchdown (35 yards) at the 4:03 mark of the 1st quarter on the Wildcats' third posession. In the first 8 minutes, James had 4 carries, 79 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
The Wildcat pouncing continued in the second quarter, as they got touchdown runs by Brendan Moran (25 yards) and Hunter Hayes (1 yard). Hayes' touchdown came after the Knights' third lost fumble. Colin James would close out the first half, and the Knights' season with his fourth rushing touchdown (3 yards).
Wildcats quarterback Ryder Meents went 2/3 for 51 yards. His first completion went to Joey Cortese for 45 yards, which set up the Hunter Hayes touchdown. Meents' second completion went to Reid Juster for 6 yards.
The Knights got their lone touchdown in the third quarter when quarterback Christian Flutman threw a 4 yard pass to Adam Stuursma. The Knights finish the season at 5-5.
The Wildcats (9-1) will host Tri-Valley (8-2) in the second round. It'll be a rematch of last year's class 2A semifinal.
