Cooper and Estepp Lead Second Half Surge; Rams Pull Away from Eagles Late

matt now

The Rams and Eagles came in to Wednesday night's game with a 4-0 conference record. Grayslake Central lost their first game of the year and have tallied off 15 straight wins, and a Hinkle Holiday Classic title since. Lakes started the season 2-4, and have won 9 in a row.

Something had to give.

It was a tight hard fought back-and-forth contest throughout. The Eagles led by 1 at the half, and started the third quarter on a 10-0 run before the Rams called timeout.

After the timeout, senior guards Dennis Estepp and Sam Cooper stepped it up and took over the game, and put the Rams ahead for good late in the third. Sam Cooper had 21 points, including 5/6 from three. Dennis Estepp had 17 points (4/7 3 pt.).

Jake Gibson helped the Rams pull away from the Eagles in the fourth quarter. The 6-6 senior College of Lake County commit was a beast on the glass. He had 7 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 blocks, as the Rams beat the Eagles 55-45.

6-6 senior Brock Marino had 13 points for the Eagles, and Cooper LaPriore had 11 points (3/5 3pt.) off the bench. Junior James Kania had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals for the Eagles.

Both teams play on Saturday. Lakes (11-5, 4-1 NLCC) host their own MLK Torunament, and will play Fremd (10-6, 2-2 MSL West). The Rams (16-1, 5-0 NLCC) will travel to Lake Forest (8-8, 3-2 NSC) as the Scouts co-host their own MLK Tournament with Deerfield.
