The Mount Carmel Sectional Final featured the rubbermatch between two South Side Chicago Catholic League rivals. Brother Rice was looking to win their third straight sectional, and head back to state in back-to-back seasons, while St. Rita was looking to win their first sectional since 2019, a year which saw them take home a 3rd place trophy.

The Mustangs and Crusaders met a month ago and split the season series with the home team winning each game. The Mustangs won 5-2 at St. Rita, and the Crusaders won 18-12 at Brother Rice.

Louie Sisto (St. Rita) and Cole Van Assen (Brother Rice) took the bump. The two righthanders squared off in the first meeting at St. Rita, where Sisto was in control giving up just two runs in a complete game.

The Crusaders had other plans. Sophomore second baseman Jackson Natanek (2/4, 2B, HR) got things started with a solo homerun for the Crusaders. The Mustangs then capitalized on a couple of Crusader defensive miscues, and led 2-1 after one inning.

The big back breaker came in the third as the Crusaders scored 5 runs, including an RBI single by Randall Nauden (1/4) and a 2-run double by Chris Daugherty (2/3). Daugherty's double would wind up being the game winning hit as the Crusaders took down the Rival Mustangs 6-3. Sisto gave up all 6 runs in 3.1 innings.

Van Assen pitched a complete game for the Crusaders, gave up 4 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned, and struck out 8. The lone earned run was a solo homerun from the Mustangs' Jackson Stanek.

Third baseman Aiden Nohava went 2/2 with a double and a sac fly. Outfielders Bryce Nevils and Ryan Hartz eached picked up a hit, and first baseman Amir Gray picked up an RBI.

The previously mentioned Jackson Stanek drove in 2 of the 3 runs for the Mustangs and went 1/3 overall. Catcher Sir Jamison Jones had two hits for the Mustangs, and Sisto had one hit.

The Crusaders (24-15) will face Lincoln-Way East on Monday at 7:30 at Ozinga Field. The Mustangs finish the season 27-12.
