Defense and Rushing Attack Key for Vikings Rout of Redwings in Lisle

matt now

For my second game on Saturday, I headed out to Benedictine University for a Benet home game. The Redwings took on St. Laurence in a CCL/ESCC White showdown on senior night. The last meeting was in 2019, which saw Benet get the win in Burbank 21-17.

A bruising rushing attack and a stiff defense led the way for a 30-6 Vikings road win. Kicker Collin Bagley kicked 3 field goals (36, 45, and 22 yards), and running back Aaron Ball scored a hat trick with 3 rushing touchdowns.

The 6-foot 200-pound senior had touchdown runs of 1, 80, and 43 yards. His 80 yard run came on the first play after Benet kicker Daniel Flores kicked his first of 2 field goals, and his 43 yard run came late in the 4th quarter to put the game away.

He would finish with 29 carries for 250 yards. The combination of Ball's power, speed and cutback ability, and a punishing Vikings offensive line was too much for a solid Redwings defense.

Vikings senior quarterback Evan Les went 8/11 for 99 yards, and had 3 carries for 15 yards. Senior wideout Kaden McHugh had 4 receptions for 36 yards, and slot receiver Robert Francis had 2 receptions for 62 yards.

Redwings junior quarterback Ryan Kubacki Jr. went 18/36 for 202 yards, and had 5 carries for 22 yards. Senior Rocky Rosanova caught 6 passes for 127 yards, and sophomore Luke Doyle caught 5 passes for 25 yards.

The CCL/ESCC goes back to the crossover schedule for week 7, which sees the White division host the Purple division.

The Vikings (5-1, 3-1 CCL/ESCC, 2-0 CCL/ESCC White) will host Marmion (2-4, 1-3 CCL/ESCC, 0-2 CCL/ESCC Purple) on Friday night, and the Redwings (3-3, 1-3 CCL/ESCC, 0-2 CCL/ESCC White) will host St. Patrick (2-4, 1-1 CCL/ESCC Purple).
