Dowling Continues to Make His Case for Player of the Year; Mount Carmel Blows Out Brother Rice
Saturday night the Crusaders and Caravan had a rematch in the 7A Quarterfinal at Mount Carmel. Back in week 6 the two squads faced off at Brother Rice where the Crusaders gave the Caravan their first close game of the year.
It would be a different story Saturday night as the Caravan, and quarterback Blainey Dowling, overcame uncharacteristic penalties and turnovers, and trounced the Crusaders 48-12.
Dowling went 15/27 for 292 yards, 5 touchdowns and an interception. The first touchdown pass was a 64 yarder to Damarion Arrington. Dowling would add touchdown passes to Danyil Taylor (3 yards), Dennis Furlong (43 yards, and 16 yards), and Jaden Bossie (20 yards). In the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Jack Elliot threw a 5 yard touchdown pass to James Deacy.
The Crusaders used both quarterbacks, Marcus Brown and Ryan Hart. They combined to go 10/27 for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both touchdowns were from Marcus Brown (6/15, 136 yards, 9 carries, 8 yards) to Mike Bos (6 rec, 133 yds, 2 TD).
Dennis Furlong caught 4 passes for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he had a 1 yard run. James Deacy had 4 catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Crusaders running back Randall Naughton had 4 carries for 15 yards. Receiver Martin O'Keeffe caught 2 passes for 37 yards.
Brother Rice finishes the season at 7-5, and Mount Carmel will have a week 1 rematch with St. Rita Saturday afternoon in the 7A semifinals.
