Foxes Shutout Indians in Defensive Struggle

Updated: Oct 15, 2022

Through the first seven weeks of the season, the weather has cooperated in the Chicago area. That all changed Friday night in Yorkville as the Foxes battled Southwest Prairie West rival Minooka on a cold rainy evening.

Despite both teams struggling to finish drives in a scoreless first quarter, the Foxes were more effective moving the ball. Running backs Giovanni Zeman and Ben Alvarez were able to thrive in the rain running the ball up the middle. Yorkville scored the game's only touchdown early in the second quarter when quarterback Michael Dopart threw an 18 yard pass to receiver Dominick Coronado.

What are the odds that the only touchdown scored is on a pass in the rain?

In the second half, the Indians had a couple of drives stall after promising starts. Outside of those two drives, they were unable to establish any rhythm offensively throughout the game, and had only two first downs at the end of the first half.

With the 7-0 victory, the Foxes improve to 7-1 overall, and 3-1 in the Southwest Prairie West. They will try to clinch a first round home playoff game at Oswego next Friday night. The Indians drop to 2-2 in conference play and 5-3 overall, but can still secure a playoff spot next week at West Aurora.
