Hawks Fly to the Second Round; Shutout Raiders

The first round of the 2022 IHSA playoffs got underway Friday night as Bolingbrook and Maine South, two class 8A powers, faced off in Park Ridge. Last season Maine South lost to Lockport 24-6 in the state championship, and Bolingbrook lost in the first round 34-30 to Glenbard North.


The Hawks' defense was flying around Friday night. They held freshman sensation, Jonas Williams, to just 104 yards passing, and 4 interceptions on 15/29 passing en route to a 24-0 shutout win. Linebacker Brady Marques had one of those 4 interception, and two sacks.


Hawks quarterback Ryan Leyden went 20/36 for 219 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also had 6 carries for 26 yards, and had a 1 yard touchdown on a quarterback keeper. His lone touchdown pass came in the second quarter when he threw a 14 yard strike to receiver Sean Mullen (4 recptions, 56 yards, TD).


Leading receiver, junior Maurice Densmore, had 5 catches for 71 yards. Junior Evan Agosto had 4 catches for 49 yards. Sophomore running back Michael Dellumo had 12 carries for 55 yards, and a 3 yard touchdown run.


I'Marion Stewart lead the game with 8 catches, but had only 51 yards. Kaleb Miller, who transferred in from Nazareth, had 3 catches for 35 yards, and had 3 carries for 11 yards. Running back Josh Robinson had 14 carries for 57 yards.


The Raiders finish the season at 6-4, but have a lot of pieces returning next season. Maine South (8-2) will travel to South Elgin (10-0) in the second round.
