In my second of three stops on Saturday, I drove out to the West Suburbs to Glen Ellyn to watch the defending 4A state champion Glenbard West Hilltoppers hosted the Oak Park-River Forest Huskies.
This was the first of two meetings this year. Last season, the Hilltoppers swept the Huskies, and outscored them by a combined score of 130-71.
While this isn't the 2021-22 version of Hilltopper basketball that went 37-1 and won a state title, this team has put together yet another solid year. The Hilltoppers (14-8, 5-3 WSC Silver) were in control for much of the game, and took care of business at home against the Hiskies (8-12, 2-4 WSC Silver) with a 64-52 victory.
Senior guard Luuk Dusek led the Hilltoppers with 15 points, including 3/7 from three. Sophomore Dom Seaney had 14 points, and Benji Zander and Logan Brown each had 11 points.
Junior guard Oscar Maxwell Johnson led the Huskies with 15 points, including 4/7 from three. 6-5 sophomore Justin Bowen had 11 points, and junior Mekhi Austin had 10 points off the bench.
