I finally got my chance to see a couple of teams that I have been trying to see all year. Friday night I drove down to the South Side to watch a very talented St. Rita Mustangs squad host the 20-win Loyola Ramblers.
Just like Tuesday night at Andrew, it wasn't my first time to St. Rita, but it was my first time in the gym. There are bleachers behind one sideline, and one baseline, plus a small section of seats begind the scorer's table, and some open space behind the other baseline.
The Ramblers started the game on a 7-2 run. After a Rita timeout, 6-5 junior Iowa State commit Nojus Indrusaitis drained 3 threes which capped off an 11-0 run. The Mustangs never trailed again, and dominated the Ramblers 54-32.
Indrusaitis, and 6-9 junior Illinois commit Morez Johnson each scored 20 points for the Mustangs. Indrusaitis, along with those 3 threes, went 5/6 at the free throw line. Johnson had 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, and a wicked windmill dunk early in the second quarter. To quote my friend Dale, who sat next to me at the game, said that Johnson "makes it look so easy."
Senior guard Nashawn Holmes, a Homewood-Flossmoor transfer, had 7 points, and 6-10 junior North Carolina commit James Brown had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Alex Engro led the Ramblers with 10 points.
