The Lancers were looking to complete the first week of the conference schedule with a 2-0 record after an 82-75 win over a tough Waubonsee team. Standing in their way were the Oakton Owls, who made the drive up the Tri-State Tollway from Des Plaines. This is a great rivalry. More often than not, regardless of how up or down either team is, these games are pretty intense.
Thursday night was no different. The Owls were coming off a bad loss to Morton Tuesday night, and wanted to get off to a good start. While neither team started the way they wanted to, it was a tight, hard fought, defensive battle.
Midway through the first half, guard Keimar Marable came off the bench and hit back-to-back threes to jumpstart the Owls after just two free throws by Chuck Owens in the frist four plus minutes. It would be back-and-forth the rest of the way.
Flash forward to the final seconds of regulation: Lancers guard James Glazebrooks (11 points), after missing his first go-ahead 3-point shot, has another opportunity to put the Lancers ahead as they were able to maintain possession after Owls forward Delon Zollicoffer-White blocked a Justin St. Louis layup attempt. The 6-2 Glazebrooks takes Roderick Bell pass and hits a three with 2.5 seconds left which ultimately decided the ballgame.
Terryon Brumby led the Lancers with 15 points and had 3 steals. 6-4 forward Randal Holm had 12 points and 7 rebounds, and Justin St. Louis had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals.
Chuck Owens led all scorers with 19 points, including 10/10 at the free throw line, and he had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Keimar Marable had 15 points, and was a perfect 5/5 from the field (3/3 3-pt.). Delon Zollicoffer-White had 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
Tuesday night, the Lancers (10-6, 2-0 Skyway) will travel to Elgin (8-10, 0-2 Skyway), and the Owls (6-10, 0-2) will travel to Rock Valley (9-9) Saturday afternoon.
