Now that we are in the month of November, the 2022-2023 basketball season is officially underway. Tuesday night was opening night for the junior college season.
Tuesday night I drove down to Wilbur Wright for the Rams' home opener against the Lake County Lancers. Both teams are trying to rebound from abysmal seasons. The Rams finished 2-19 last season, and the Lancers were 2-22. That said, no matter how good either team is, this matchup is always a tight one.
Tuesday night's game was no exception. The Lancers lead 38-34 at halftime thanks to the combo of Randal Holm (11 total points, 10 points in the first half) and Justin St. Louis (13 points).
The Lancers went on a 12-2 run to start the second half. Lancer guard Terryon Brumby (10 points, all in the second half) scored 7 of the 12 points in that span.
But the Rams didn't go away. After a timeout, the Rams gradually clawed their way back, and they eventually took a brief lead late in the second half before the Lancers tied it up.
Que Justin St. Louis.
At the 1:55 mark of the second half, St. Louis hit the go-ahead three. The Lancers would add some insurance points, and finish off the Rams 67-60.
Lake County (1-0) will travel to Kishwaukee (0-1) Saturday afternoon, and Wilbur Wright (0-1) will host #1 South Suburban.
