Key Special Teams Plays the Difference for the Celtics; Avenge Week 4 Loss to Dethrone Hilltoppers
Back in week 4, Joliet Catholic came to New Lenox, and won 49-41 against the Providence Catholic Celtics. They met again Saturday afternoon for a 2nd Round Showdown.
This would not be the shootout type of game with 25 mile-per-hour winds and 40 plus mile-per-hour gusts. The two offenses struggled in the first half with the Hilltoppers ahead of the Celtics 7-3. Receiver Jack Tess scored the first touchdown from 27 yards out on a reverse
The momentum changed in favor of the Celtics midway through the third quarter. They would score all three of their touchdowns in a five minute span. The first touchdown came courtesy of a 27 yard run by receiver Jack Tess after B.J. Olson blocked a punt. Then Luke Leverett blocked a Hilltopper field goal attempt and Gavin Hagan returned it for the second touchdown. The last touchdown came on a 13 yard run by Jamari Tribett. Tribett finished with 19 carries for 98 yards.
The Celtics' number two back, Mason Santiago, had 11 carries for 34 yards. Senior quarterback Lucas Proudfoot went 4/10 for 59 yards, and had 5 carries for 15 yards.
Hilltoppers Senior Justin Bonsu had 18 carries for 118 yards, and caught 3 passes for 52 yards. Quarterback T.J. Schlageter went 12/23 for 192 yards, and a touchdown
The Hilltoppers finish teir season 8-3, and the Celtics (7-4) will host Ricrichmond-Burton (11-0).
