Loyola with a Dominating 61-7 Victory Over United Township

matt now

United Township High School is located in East Moline. The Panthers drove over two and a half hours to Wilmette for the Saturday matinee.

It was all Loyola in this one. Ramblers quarterback Jake Stearney started the scoring with a 24 yard run less than a minute in. He would also add a 5 yard run and a 49 yard pass to tight end P.J. Hayes (3 catches, 67 yards, TD). Stearney's day was done after one quarter. He finished 7/7, 114 yards, TD, 2 carries, 29 yards, 2 TD.

Despite Stearney being replaced by Luke Collins (3/4, 50 yards, TD, 2 carries, 17 yards), the Ramblers forced a running clock at the start of the second half. Other scoring contributions included a 27 yard pick six by Joe Auer, a 3 yard run by Drew MacPherson (4 carries, 36 yards, TD) , a 27 yard pass from Collins to tight end Jack Fitzgerald, and an odd punt return for linebacker Rocco Izzo. Izzo's punt return was off a botched snap, and shanked punt that he caught in mid-air. Loyola led 47-7 at halftime.

The one positive highlight for the Panthers was Matthew Kelley's 71 yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Kelley finished 3/13, 14 yards, 4 carries, 70 yards, and a touchdown.

The Panthers (0-2) have their home opener next Friday as they open conference play against Geneseo (1-1). The Ramblers (2-0) will be at St. Rita (1-1) for a CCL/ESCC crossover.
