Oswego East Runs Past Yorkville; Sweeps Season Series for the Battle of the Southwest Prairie West

matt now

Friday night the Wolves and Foxes met for a rematch in Yorkville to decide the Southwest Prairie West. Back in December, the Wolves won the first meeting 56-52 at Oswego East.

The Yorkville crowd was rocking early as the Foxes got off to a fast start. They lead 18-10 after one quarter when junior Jory Boley hit a long three at the first quarter buzzer.

Normally a team would keep up momentum after a big shot like that, but Oswego East wouldn't let it happen as they caught fire, and outscored the Foxes 21-9 in the second quarter. It was all Wolves from that point as they put together a dominant second half en route to a 59-48 win.

Defensively the Wolves did a great job as they held Yorkville's 6-10 junior Jason Jakstys to 5 points. Jory Boley lead the Foxes with 15 points, and LeBaron Lee, Dayvion Johnson, and 6-4 Bryce Salek had 8 points each.

Mekhi Lowery led the Wolves with 15 points, including 11 in the second half, and had 11 boards. Jehvion Starwood had 13 points, including 11 in the first half, and shot 2/5 from three. Ryan Johnson had 9 points, including a three to put the Foxes up one midway through the second quarter.

Oswego East point guard Bryce Shoto, a 5-9 senior who transferred from Plainfield Central, had the Yorkville crowd chanting "midget" at him. The so called "midget" hit 2 threes, drove to the basket, and finished the game with 10 points.
