Thursday was the day for the 1A and 2A games for a chance to advance to the State Championships on Saturday. The first 2A semifinal game was between DePaul Prep and Teutopolis.

In the Supersectionals, the Rams rallied from a late 10-point deficit to Perspectives-Leadership and won 50-46. As for the Wooden Shoes, they beat a tough Pinckneyville squad by 2.

Last season both teams lost to eventual state champion Nashville. The Wooden Shoes took one to the chin 44-18 in the Supersectional, and the Rams lost 31-24 in double overtime in the 2A semifinal. The Rams would defeat Rockridge to take 3rd place.

The Rams defense smothered the Wooden Shoes throughout the entire game, but early on struggled to hit their shots offensively. They lead 19-11 at halftime, and then the floodgates opened up. The Rams outscored the Wooden Shoes 26-6 in the second half en route to a 45-17 victory.

Rams guard Maurice Thomas, the only senior in the starting five, started the second half romp with two threes. Thomas almost scored as many points as the Wooden Shoes did as he finished with 16 points and 3 assists. 6-7 junior forward Jaylan McElroy had 10 points and 6 boards, and 6-2 junior guard PJ Chambers finished with 7 points.

6-3 senior James Niebrugge led the Wooden Shoes with 8 points. 6-6 senior forward Caleb Siemer had 4 points, 7 boards, and 2 assists.

DePaul Prep (22-12) will face Bloomington Central Catholic (26-11) for the 2A State Championship Saturday.
