Region IV and XXIV Men's Basketball Top 10

matt now
It's been three weeks, and there has been some turnover since my last rankings post.

Here we go:

#1: John A. Logan (23-2):

The Volunteers extended their winning streak to 21 with a win Saturday at Lincoln Trail. They sewpt the season series against #2 Vincennes February 8. Host Rend Lake Wednesday and #10 Southwestern Illinois Saturday before ending the regular season at Kaskaskia Tuesday. Still undefeated in the area.

#2: Vincennes (24-3):

Got swept by #1 John A. Logan February 8, but without a doubt the second best team in the area. Host #10 Southwestern Illinois Wednesday, and Olney Central next Tuesday. Will be at Wabash Valley Saturday.

#3: Triton (21-5):

The Trojans ride an 8 game winning streak right now including wins at Highland and a double overtime win at Kankakee. Will have a rematch against nationally ranked Indian Hills in Ottumwa, Iowa Saturday afternoon.

#4: South Suburban (24-4):

Since the start of January, the Bulldogs have won 12 out of their last 13. In that stretch, they've picked up wins at Kankakee, #5 Milwaukee Area Technical College, and Madison; with the two latter games in blowout fashion. The one loss came against Parkland in Champaign. The Bulldogs end the season with two road games; at Kishwaukee on Tuesday, and at #8 Danville Area on Thursday.

#5: Milwaukee Area Technical College (24-4):

The Stormers are 4-2 in the month of February. The two losses came at #4 South Suburban on February 2, and at home in an upset against Rock Valley. The four wins include #7 Moraine Valley, DuPage, #9 Olive Harvey, and Madison. The Stormers have a Thursday night showdown on the road against #6 Bryant & Stratton at Mount Mary University.

#6: Bryant & Stratton (24-5):

The Bobcats, like #3 Triton, have won 8 in a row including a 77-72 win at home against #9 Olive Harvey last Saturday. Host #5 Milwaukee Area Technical College at 8 PM for a Thursday night showdown.

#7: Moraine Valley (22-5):

Currently in a tight conference battle with Prairie State. The Cyclones lead the Illinois Skyway conference with an 11-1 record. Swept the season series against previously ranked Waubonsee as well as Elgin. Lost to #5 Milwaukee Area Technical College on February 4. Close out the season with Morton at home on Tuesday, and are at Prairie State on Thursday.

#8: Danville Area (18-4):

The only team in the rankings representing Division II in Region XXIV. The Jaguars have won 5 in a row, including wins against Spoon River and Parkland. They have a huge showdown at home against #4 South Suburban Thursday, and a rematch at John Wood on Saturday.

#9 Olive Harvey (23-7):

Despite wins against the #7 and #8 team earlier in the season, Olive Harvey drops to #9 due to some tough losses recently to #6 Bryant & Stratton last week and #5 Milwaukee Area Technical College Yesterday. The Panthers nearly came from behind against the Stormers, but the comeback fell just short. They end the regular season with a 23-7 record.

#10: Southwestern Illinois (20-8):

Originally in my preseason rankings, the Blue Storm find their way back in the rankings. After an upset loss at home to Wabash Valley, the Blue Storm have won 5 straight, including at Kaskaskia February 8, and at Olney Central February 15. Close out the season at #2 Vincennes Wednesday and at #1 John A. Logan Saturday.
