Sequoits Win Battle of District 117 with Punishing Running Attack

Updated: Sep 12, 2022

The Northern Lake County Conference schedule kicked off Friday night with one of the games on the dock being Lakes and Antioch. The two schools are less than 4 miles apart from one another, and showcase one of the better rivalries in Lake County.

The Sequoits would score early and often, and did so with a bruising ground game. Promising sophomore running back Martin Cohen scored from 18 and 15 yards out respectively in the first quarter. Cohen finished with 9 carries, 59 yards, and the previously mentioned 2 touchdowns.

Nick Day scored the Sequoits' next 4 touchdowns. He had runs of 2 yards, 39 yards, 7 yards, and 49 yards. The last of those runs came on a fumbled snap on a punt attempt. The junior back finished with 14 carries, 174 yards, and those 4 touchdowns.

The quartet of Cohen, Day, senior back Aiden Lennon (8 carries, 86 yards), and senior quarterback Quade Moll (9 carries, 51 yards) would combine for 370 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. Kellen Brawner added a 22 yard run late in the 4th to cap off a 49-13 win for the Sequoits.

Eagles running back Amir Al Hindi finished with 23 carries, 95 yards, and a touchdown. Quarterback Max Bausch went 16/27 for 163 yards, and had 9 carries for 52 yards. Receiver Tyson Dewey caught 6 passes for 50 yards, and Matthew Rytina caught 5 passes for 78 yards.

The Sequoits (1-2, 1-0) will travel to North Chicago (1-2, 0-1) next Friday night, and the Eagles (1-2, 0-1) will play their homecoming game next Friday night against Round Lake (0-3, 0-1).
