Tuesday night I made my way down to Victor J. Andrew in the Tinley Park/Orland Hills area. Andrew hosted the Stagg Chargers. Both schools, along with Sandburg, are all part of the same school district; District 230.

I was here back in November for Andrew's second round football playoff loss to Warren, but it was my first time inside the building. The gym floor is one of the more unique floors I've ever seen with primarily dark floorboards outside of the shooting arcs.

The Thunderbolts were able to take care of business against the Chargers with a 66-56 victory. Junior guard Lebarion Gilmore (13 points, 3/4 3-pt., 2 steals) had the hot hand early on for the Chargers draining 3 threes in the first quarter, but was held to 4 points in the final three quarters, and fouled out in the fourth.

For the Bolts, the difference in this game was their size. 6-5 senior wing Nathan Laplant and 6-8 junior forward/center Grantas Sakenis set the tone. They were already in double figures when Andrew led 35-20 at halftime.

The Chargers started the second half on an 8-2 run. Then Andrew's 6-7 senior Austin Kulig took over. Kulig, who recently committed to Lewis, scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half. He also had 6 boards, 5 steals, and 2 assists.

Laplant led all scorers with 18 points (12 in the first half) and 4 assists. Sakenis had 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 block. Chargers 6-3 junior Connor Williams tied with Gilmore with 13 points, and had 4 assists. 6-5 sophomore forward Domas Narcevicius had 12 points (2/4 3-pt.), and 3 rebounds off the bench for the Chargers.

On Tuesday, the Thunderbolts will welcome Bradley-Bourbonnais for a chance to clinch the Southwest Suburban Red title.
