Week in Review: Roadrunners Rebound Big after First Loss, plus Lopsided Wins from Warriors, Spartans

This week I traveled Nazareth, Lincoln-Way West, and Kishwaukee College. The Roadrunners were coming off thir first loss of the season against Benet after a grand slam by Marc Iozzo. Downers Grove North had their game at Lincoln-Way West moved to Thursday so they could make up their Monday game against Oak Park. Saturday, the Spartans renewed their rivalry with a talented, but young DeKalb Barbs squad.

4/26: Nazareth 11 Benet 1 (5 Innings): Roadrunners Rebound from First Loss in Dominating Fashion


The Redwings got a boost Tuesday from Marc Iozzo when he hit a grand slam in Benet's 10-9 win, which handed the Roadrunners their first loss of the year. Wednesday the series moved back to RJ Sanders Field at Nazareth where the Roadrunners won game 1 9-3. David Cox and Jaden Fauske each hit a 2-run homerun, and Lucas Smith went 2/3 with a solo homerun. Fauske took over for Nici Drtina on the mound after an inning plus after Drtina left the game with an injury. Fauske pitched 4 innings of relief, gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits and struckout 11 Redwings. Marc Iozzo provided the only run for the Redwings on a solo homerun. The Roadrunners scored 1 run in the first inning, 3 runs in the second inning, and 7 runs in the third inning.


4/27: Lincoln-Way West 10 Downers Grove North 0 (6 Innings): King Dazzles, Warriors Stun Trojans with Offensive Explosion


Warriors righthander Reagan King was overpowering! He held the Trojans hitless through the first 4 innings before Brooks Barofsky led off the 5th with a single. King went the distance, gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, and 9 punchouts. Cole Crafton led the offense going 3/4 with 2 RBI. Lucas Acevedo went 2/3 with a 2-run homerun, and Dominic Saso went 2/4 with 2 RBI, including the game ending RBI single in the 6th. Trojans starter Ryan Dennison gave up 5 runs on 5 hits, walked 3, and struckout 1. Brooks Barofsky and Jude Warwick each had a single for the Trojans.

4/29: Sycamore 12 DeKalb 1: Spartans Rout Barbs, Slug 15 Hits in Non-Conference Rivalry


The Spartans continue to roll as they improve to 16-2 on the year. Kiefer Tarnoki led the way with a perfect 4/4 and an RBI. Tommy Townsend went 1/3 with a double and 4 RBI, and pitched a scoreless 5th inning to finish off the Barbs. Jimmy Amptmann went 2/3 with a double and 2 RBI, and Joey Puleo went 1/3 with an RBI triple. Owen Piazza and Teague Hallahan each went 2 innings for the Spartans. Piazza gave up no runs on 2 hits, and Hallahan gave up 1 run on 1 hit, walked 4, and struckout 5. Jackson Kees went 2/3 for the Barbs, but gave up 8 runs in 1.1 innings. Maddux Clarence went 1/2 with an RBI walk in the 3rd inning.
