I took a trip down to Gately Park Thursday Night for a Public League Red Romp between a North Side Power (Amundsen) and South Side Power (Simeon).
After the Vikings recovered their own onside kick on the opening kickoff, the Wolverines found themselves down early when Vikings running back Reggie Mitchell ran for a 56 yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.
Despite the early Vikings touchdown and a couple of turnovers on downs, the Wolverines did not panic. Quarterback Kaleb Sims led the Wolverines to two touchdowns toward the end of the second quarter: a 13 yard keeper at the 3:03 mark, and a 45 yard pass down the sideline to receiver Cornell Conely at the 50 second mark.
Running back James Bell scored two fourth quarter touchdowns after the Vikings tied the game in the 3rd quarter. Bell scored on a 4 yard run for the go-ahead touchdown set up by a 35 yard pass from Sims to Raymond Liggins III, and added a 30 yard insurance touchdown run with 5:07 left.
