Simeon and Mount Carmel, along with Hyde Park, were in the Hinsdale South Sectional last season as the top three seeds. Simeon rolled through last season to the Supersectional, but Mount Carmel lost a heartbreaker to Hyde Park 51-48.
It was a different story for the Caravan Wednesday night as they rolled past the Thunderbirds 70-51. Simeon defeated an upstart St. Laurence squad the previous night 50-42.
Much like last year against Hyde Park, Simeon rolled through the Caravan to a 70-47 win to capture the Glenbard South Sectional title. Despite a dominant first half by the Wolverines, they only led by 5 at halftime thanks to some key plays by star point guard, and Denver commit, DeAndre Craig and backup guard Grant Best. Best finished with 9 points, including 7 in the first half, but fouled out of the game in the fourth.
The Wolverines outscored the Caravan 42-24 in the second half, including 22-8 in the third quarter. They were led by 6-8 Loyola commit Miles Rubin, and 6-6 Toledo commit Sam Lewis. Rubin had 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Lewis had 16 points and 7 rebounds.
The other Rubin twin, Wes Rubin, a Northern Iowa commit, had 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Star point guard Jalen Griffith, who just committed to Jacksonville, had 8 points a d 4 assists. Kaiden Space had 7 points off the bench for the Wolverines, including a three point shot to end the first quarter.
DeAndre Craig finished with 13 points. Anthony Ciaravino, who was in foul trouble most of the game had 11 points, and shot 3/8 from three. 6-5 junior, and Homewood-Flossmoor transfer, Lee 'Tre' Marks had 4 points and 10 rebounds.
The Caravan finish the season 27-7.
