York Stays Undefeated with Big Road Win over Lyons
The Dukes and Lions both came into Saturday's game with a 4-0 record. It was a defensive struggle early on, but York was able to strike in the second quarter.
Moments after York quarterback Matt Vezza (13/20, 211 yards, TD, 6 carries, 45 yards), threw a 53 yard pass to Charlie Specht (6 rec, 125 yds, TD), running back Jake Melion ran the ball in from 3 yards out. Vezza and Specht would connect again for a 43 yard touchdown with over a minute left in the half. The Dukes were unable to convert both point-after attempts and lead 12-0 at the half.
The Lions were able to sustain a long drive to start the second half. Quarterback Ryan Jackson (15/22, 157 yards, TD, 9 carries 35 yards, TD) finished the 6:38 drive with a 10 yard keeper, making it 12-7. In the 4th quarter, Jackson threw a 5 yard pass to Travis Stamm (3 rec, 41 yards, TD).
Unfortunately for the Lions, both touchdowns were answered by Jake Melion from 23 and 14 yards out, and the Dukes added a 2 point conversion after the 14 yard run. The Dukes defeated the Lions 27-14, and Jake Melion finished with 20 carries for 101 yards and 3 touchdowns.
York (5-0, 3-0 West Suburban Silver) will host Glenbard West (5-0, 2-0 West Suburban Silver) Friday night, and Lyons (4-1, 2-1 West Suburban Silver) will travel to Proviso West (2-3, 0-3 West Suburban Silver).
